Are you looking for a web developer who delivers what he promises?
I know from experience that digital design agencies can have difficulties with freelance technical staff. You work hard to create a beautiful design and a detailed project plan, the client is happy then you hand it over to a developer…
…this is when things start to go wrong! Milestones are missed and the quality of the work is not to your usual high standards. The final product may end up costing you and/or your client more than you anticipated: you have damaged the relationship with your client and they may look elsewhere for future creative support.

Why should you choose to work with me?
I’m risk averse: I won’t make false promises agreeing to anything and everything. I understand that for you results are essential – work must be carried out on time and to budget. Working as a freelancer for the last ten years I have maintained a track record of delivering work as agreed, please see my testimonials below.
I try to avoid jargon when it's not required and favour a plain English approach whenever possible. Before making the leap into freelance work I was employed for 7 years as a consultant for a multinational IT company so I will talk to you and your clients in a professional manner.
I work on a monthly basis for nearly all my customers many of which I've partnered with for a number of years.

Why you might not want to hire me!
If any of the following apply then I’m probably not a good match for your business:- You want a rent-a-coder at a low hourly rate.
- You don’t want any input at the scoping stage with suggestions of alternative methods or technologies that could help you and your clients.
- You want someone to deliver on requirements blindly and without question – delivering what the customer asked for (but not what they actually need).
-
Would you like to discuss further?
If you think I can help then I’d love to find out more about you and your projects. I can be contacted on 07866621574 or via email at nick@warnerfreelance.com. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how I can help your business.

KnowledgeSmart
I've worked with KnowledgeSmart for over ten years. Their assessment taking and skills gathering software is built as a bespoke ASP.NET site with a SQL Server backend. I've made many functional changes to their applications, migrated the KS sites to new cloud servers, upgraded .net versions and SQL Server versions, configured maintenance plans and SQL indexing as well as taking care of many day-to-day bug fixes and data requests. A great company to work with! -
ODEP
The ODEP website was developed in DotNetNuke from designs created by Shark Design, the front-end CSS and HTML provided by another developer. A slightly unusual aspect of this development was that two websites were commissioned, ODEP and Beyond Compliance, both of which needed to share the same product database. DNN allowed this flexibility with the creation of a shared SQL Server database and custom modules developed to display and edit the product catalogue. -
NJR - Pilot website
Another DNN development, this time with a custom registration process. This required validation against a list of users stored in a SQL Server database then storing of submitted information. Areas of the site are then made available depending on the registration status of the user. A bespoke wizard style DNN module was developed to deliver this functionality. Additional modules were developed to perform administrative tasks - such as downloading submitted information. -
South East Water
Developed using Umbraco (my favourite CMS) the site was designed by LDA Design with excellent guidance from a digital strategist at South East Water. An interesting development in that I was involved in all aspects of the technical work from the front-end CSS and markup to the Umbraco structure and progamming of many bespoke macros. Recent projects have involved creating a more mobile and tablet friendly site. We provide ongoing support on a monthly basis.

ASP.NET
I've been using ASP.NET since version 1.1: almost 18 years. Before that I was a database and VB developer so enjoyed the opportunity to apply those skills to something web based and learn CSS and HTML. I've developed numerous websites with ASP.NET. There are rumours that one of my first developments is still going strong on a secure intranet within the MOD. -
SQL Server
Nearly all my development work has been data-driven. SQL Server 2000 was the first version I worked with and since then I've developed countless databases complete with SSIS packages, maintenance plans, indexing, stored procedures and functions and even a bespoke CDC implementation. I like to create logical data models with full referential integrity wherever possible. -
Umbraco
Umbraco is a fantastic CMS for all users but particularly for developers. The most notable site I've developed using Umbraco was for South East Water. I've created document types, page templates and developed macros to handle custom functionality. Being based on ASP.NET I've found it easy to debug code and resolve issues within the Visual Studio development environment. -
DotNetNuke
The sites I have developed with DotNetNuke have required the manipulation of additional data. This was achieved with the creation of new modules combined with the use of SQL Server. DotNetNuke allows modules to be dropped onto pages, so this approach allowed content editors to create pages containing this custom functionality.

Rory Vance: CEO, KnowledgeSmart
We have had the pleasure of working with Nick Warner on multiple projects. Nick has a rare blend of exemplary technical ability, combined with strong communication skills. He works closely with our technical leads, to clearly define each project specification, prior to commencing work. He handles change requests without complaint and regularly contributes helpful suggestions for ways to improve our systems. His customer service is excellent and his responsiveness to support requests is impressive. His project deliveries are always within defined timescales and he has never once gone over agreed budgets. Although Nick works freelance, he feels like part of our team. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Nick’s services and we look forward to continuing our working relationship. -
Gary Lloyd: Creative Director, LDA Design
What makes Nick stand out is his ability to communicate in a straightforward, approachable manner and to deal effortlessly with technical tasks. -
Jonathan Crolla: Business Solutions Manager, Marie Stopes International
Throughout the development project Nick provided excellent technical direction and support to the whole team, naturally stepping into the technical lead role when required. The project itself could not have been delivered without him. I would happily have Nick back on the team again should I ever have the opportunity and highly recommend him.
